Retraction, Correction & Withdrawal Policy

The International Research Journal of Innovation in Science and Technology (IRJIST) is committed to maintaining the integrity, transparency, and reliability of the scholarly record. The journal follows recognized principles of publication ethics and takes appropriate action when concerns arise regarding the accuracy, originality, or ethical compliance of published or submitted manuscripts.

1. Purpose

This policy outlines the procedures for corrections, retractions, expressions of concern, and manuscript withdrawals to ensure the integrity of the academic record and to protect readers, authors, reviewers, and the research community.

2. Corrections

A correction may be issued when a published article contains minor errors that do not invalidate the overall findings, conclusions, or scientific integrity of the work.

Examples include:

  • Typographical errors
  • Author affiliation corrections
  • Minor data presentation errors
  • Metadata inaccuracies
  • Reference corrections

Where appropriate, a correction notice will be published and linked to the original article.

3. Retractions

An article may be retracted if there is clear evidence that:

  • The findings are unreliable due to misconduct or honest error.
  • Plagiarism has occurred.
  • Data fabrication or falsification is identified.
  • Ethical standards have been seriously violated.
  • Duplicate publication or redundant publication has occurred.
  • The research was conducted without required ethical approvals.
  • Copyright infringement or legal concerns arise.

Retraction decisions will be made by the Editorial Office following a fair investigation and, where appropriate, consultation with the authors, reviewers, institutions, or relevant authorities.

Retracted articles will remain accessible as part of the scholarly record but will be clearly marked as "Retracted."

4. Expressions of Concern

Where serious concerns are raised regarding a published article but sufficient evidence is not yet available for a correction or retraction, IRJIST may publish an Expression of Concern.

The notice will remain associated with the article until the matter has been resolved.

5. Manuscript Withdrawal Before Publication

Authors may request withdrawal of a manuscript before final publication.

Withdrawal requests must:

  • Be submitted in writing by the corresponding author.
  • Clearly state the reason for withdrawal.
  • Include confirmation that all co-authors agree to the withdrawal.

The Editorial Office reserves the right to refuse withdrawal requests where ethical concerns or ongoing investigations exist.

6. Post-Acceptance Withdrawal

Requests to withdraw manuscripts after acceptance are strongly discouraged.

If significant editorial, production, or publication resources have already been utilized, the journal may require appropriate justification before approving the withdrawal request.

Any applicable publication charges already incurred may remain payable.

7. Author Responsibility

Authors are responsible for ensuring that:

  • Submitted work is original.
  • Data are accurate and authentic.
  • Proper permissions and ethical approvals have been obtained.
  • All authors have approved the manuscript.
  • Publication ethics standards have been followed.

Failure to comply with these responsibilities may result in correction, retraction, manuscript rejection, or future submission restrictions.

8. Editorial Responsibility

The Editorial Office shall:

  • Investigate concerns fairly and confidentially.
  • Provide authors an opportunity to respond.
  • Take corrective action when necessary.
  • Maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.
  • Act in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics & Malpractice Policy.

9. Preservation of the Scholarly Record

Retractions, corrections, and expressions of concern shall remain permanently linked to the original publication whenever possible. The journal shall preserve the transparency and traceability of all editorial actions.

10. Policy Review

This policy may be revised periodically to reflect developments in publication ethics, editorial best practices, and scholarly publishing standards.
